Simple Snacks: Frozen Bananas
If there's anything about a Toddler's food preferences, it's that they are constantly altering what they'll eat from one day to another. One afternoon, Nathan will want two bananas. The next, he'll only eat 1/2 of one or none at all.
It was on the 1/2 banana day that I tried this one out. We had happened to have had corn dogs for our lunch and I kept (and washed!) the sticks from them. When I went to clear Nathan's plate, he had half a banana left. Normally I'd just eat it so it wouldn't brown and go to waste but I was stuffed full. So I stuck the banana on the corndog stick and put it in a snack-sized Ziploc freezer bag. I didn't think it would freeze well by itself, but it did! Later that night after playing outside, I gave him the frozen half, and he loved it! What a great way to get in another serving of fruit! (Sure beats those sugary popsicles!)
I guess I never really thought about freezing them without chocolate before. :) So if you have a leftover banana or some that are starting to brown, don't let them go to waste! Freeze them up for a nice, healthy, cold treat! (But no one will stop you if you want to add a little chocolate coating to them!)
