Tuesday Tip: Avoiding Magazine Clutter

Sometimes I can't get over how many magazine subscriptions I have! Most of them I purchased for $5 or less. But who has time to read every article in every magazine? For awhile, I would just pile up the magazines until I got a free night to read them. But they really do take up a LOT of space after awhile. So recently I started doing this to reduce the clutter:

When the magazine arrives, I flip through to find any articles I might be interested in reading. Surprisingly, there are only three or four per magazine! I rip them out and staple any multiple page articles together. I then cut out any coupons that they have and put them in my coupon file. I throw all my articles into a two-pocket folder where they'll stay until I can get to them. I then recycle the remainder of the magazine.

Not only does this save on space BUT I am less apt to buy unnecessary items because I am not reading all their ads on "great" kids' products etc. Eventually, I'll see which magazines have the most useful information (or the best coupons!) and then cancel the other subscriptions. The great thing about this method is, if I know I am going to be stuck at a Dr's appt. or somewhere for any length of time, I can just grab my one simple folder and take it with me to read. It's a little more convenient than carting off 10 magazines with only a few pages of worthy material! :)
