So I decided a few days ago that due to all that's going on this summer and having a little baby that I wasn't going to do a big garden. But I did want to do a small one that will still save me some $$. And there at lunch, Nathan and I were eating some salsa and it hit me...a salsa garden! We eat lots of salsa here and I use it in so many of my main entree recipes! I found a couple websites for planting a salsa garden, which I'll read more in depth over the weekend.
But, I wanted to ask all of you if you've found a really great salsa recipe that you like and also, have any of you had any luck with canning salsa? I know I can find some of this info online but I value the opinions of my readers/fellow bloggers and would love to go by what you've tried personally.
Thanks for any help!
UPDATE: Thank you to MaryBeth from Baby Good Buys for this link here to a salsa recipe!
Keep on sharing! :)

I have planted a ton of tomato plants the past two years and literally canned gallons of salsa using "Annie's Salsa Recipe" from Gardenweb: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/recipex/msg0821121827919.html
ReplyDeleteThis recipe is amazing. It's a bit spicy, but I like it that way! It's easy to tone down by cutting out some of the hot peppers. I've given it away to lots of people and it's always a hit!
I don't have any great recipes but I think a salsa garden is a really neat idea. Good luck!
ReplyDeletehi pocketgirl...have fun with the garden...thats an Amick tradition...I had lots of fun growing up in grandpa's and grandma's garden some which was were our only source of meals..love ya dAD
ReplyDeletei like to use the BALL salsa seasoning packs that you can pick up at walmart. it takes a pack , some tomatoes and vinegar!! its really simple and you can freeze it instead of canning. which makes it handy , since standing over a hot stove in the summer heat is not something i like to do.
ReplyDeleteif you go the BALL WEBSIITE

you can get coupons for the salsa seasoning packets. :)
try a batch; you will love it.
Great idea Jaycie! I always love to do an herb garden (nice and small and the bunnies seem to leave it alone for the most part). Maybe I'll add a few more items and do a "salsa garden" too!!! I'll be keeping my eye on this post!
ReplyDeleteWe use most of our vegetable garden to grow what is needed for salsa. We use the Ball salsa recipe on their website. We made about 10 jars the first year we made it and they were all gone in just about 2 months! LOL We could go through one jar a day if we didn't watch ourselves! Good luck with your garden and have fun!
