So I put a little update on my 5K Training progress here. I wish it was better news. I've had to take a rest/recovery hiatus because my knees are acting up.
If any of you are runners out there and have any advice on knee pain, PLEASE share! I've been in the dumps about having to take time off from training. I'm missing that feeling of escaping it all through running! :)
BUT, on better news, my neighbor is still training full-swing and has found great joy in running! She agrees, it's a great escape! She's even said that she did an extra set of intervals one day because she was feeling great!
Also, I got an Anonymous comment of another reader starting up. Congrats to you! Please keep me posted on your training!! Also, I want to give a quick shout-out to Jen--good luck on your first 5K this week!
Thanks for any help!
Wow, that's so cool that you're doing the couch to 5k program! I started doing it in December and while I certainly didn't stick to it completely, I AM jogging 3 miles regularly now :)
ReplyDeleteAs for knee pain, the only thing I can suggest is investing in some good shoes (not sure what you're using now). They're expensive, but running is super high impact and it's worth the money. I was having ankle/knee pain and bought some ascis gels and now I'm good to go.
Good luck!
I'm a fan of your blog!
ReplyDeleteI am a jogger and highly recommend insoles for your shoes if you're having knee pain. I had knee problems a few years ago while running and couldn't run for several weeks. My knees hurt so bad that I had trouble playing with my kids and walking up and down the stairs. My dad is a foot doctor and sent me some insoles and told me to wear them all the time, not just for running. I did that religiously for quite awhile, then got relaxed about it. I hurt my knee again and so my dad sent me better insoles. I LOVE these new ones!!! They're called "super feet" insoles.
Good luck, bad knees are no fun!
Congrats on the running!
ReplyDeleteI've found my knee pain is often caused by old, broken down or ill-fitting shoes. A running store can help you find some that fit right. However sometimes it also happens when my leg muscles aren't all of a consistent strength. I do leg lifts lying on the floor with my foot flexed and rotated out. No weights, just as many reps as is comfortable. Helps strengthen the inner leg muscle. I'm not a doctor, just a little trick that helps me. Good luck!
