Marching Into Fitness: 5K Training


Since it's "Marching Into Fitness" month here, I thought I'd throw out a little running tidbit. I'm thinking that I'll start my official 5K training on April 1st. No foolin'! I have a 5K Fitness Walk on the Sunday prior so what a great time to start! I plan on running in the meantime, but just at random, with no set schedule.

I know some of you may think that running's not for you. But if you've never tried it, now's a great time! If you need a little encouragement, start with reading John "The Penguin" Bingham's The Courage To Start: A Guide To Running for Your Life. I found it to be incredibly inspiring...and hilarious! His line about wanting to be a runner and getting as far as the driveway and about dying with gasps of air was what happens to a lot of us. We have the motivation to want to be a runner but building up to actually being a runner...takes time and patience. Starting off too fast is the best way to kill your love of running! :)
