CG's Giveaways: Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving
I thought that since today's Tip for the 31 Ways to Save on Your Grocery Budget (Without Coupons) was about the savings you can get for Canning/Preserving that a good giveaway might be a book on....well, canning and preserving! :)
I don't know much on this subject but I keep hearing the big name always come up anytime anyone talks about preserving and that's Ball. So I picked a book from them with over 400 recipes! That should keep someone busy, right? :)
So today's giveaway is for Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving.
How to Enter:
1) Leave a comment and tell me what is the biggest way you save on your grocery budget? Be sure to leave your first name & email/blog address.
Then the other normal ways to enter apply: (Make sure you leave a separate comment for these, too!)
2) Simply leave a comment with your first name and email/blog address. This is a bonus entry! :) Please check that your email address is correct before submitting. (This should be a separate comment than the one above.)
3) For an additional entry, write a posting on your blog about the giveaway and link back to the giveaway. If you don't have a blog, you can "tweet" about the giveaway on twitter. Make sure that you leave another comment letting me know that you did this. (Be sure to leave your email/blog address again.)
4) There's a total of three entries allowed per person.
Click here for basic giveaway info.
The giveaway will end on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 11:59PM, CST.

I save on my grocery budget by seriously shopping the ads. I get the ads on Wednesday morning, make my weekly menu and grocery list based on what's on sale, and then go through my coupons. I also stock up on the loss leaders.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway... Last fall I had several neighbors with fruit trees that were just dropping fruit and no one was using it. I wished I'd known what I could do with it other than just dehydrating.

The biggest ways I save (I can't just pick one!!) is always buying on sale and stockpiling, eating in season, menu planning and cooking ahead and freezing some.

I save the most by stockpiling sale items and making sure to use the things in my stockpile by order of expiration! It can be tricky to keep it all organized.

I save on groceries by buying the loss-leaders. I buy meat when it is on sale. I cook and freeze it right away. With 3 little ones, it's much easier to pre-cook the meat. I do the same with produce. I love finding over-ripe bananas on sale. We freeze them and use them in smoothies.

We purchase a 1/3 cow from a local meet locker along with 2 other couples. Last fall it cost is about $1.43 per pound for hamburger, roasts and steaks. You also get to pick you thinkness of cuts when you go through a locker. We also can and freeze as much as we can in our garden, this will be year #2. There are many local farmer friends that invite us out once a year to pick as much sweet corn as we want for free. A fresh baked loaf of bread and cookies go a long way with our farmer friends.

I try to make left overs meals a couple times a week

My biggest way to save on our grocery bill is to plan our menus around what is on sale AND only purchasing the items that are on my list (this has been hard, but the best thing as I tend to over-spend on stockpiling).
ReplyDeleteMy husband also grows a salad garden for us in the summer. This saves us tons on summer veggies.

If I see a good deal on something we eat often (cereal, hot dogs, bread, buns, beans, etc.) I'll stock up and either store in my pantry or freeze as needed. Makes a big difference, plus we never run out of family favorites.
ReplyDeleteI clip coupons and match them with the sales for the week. I have a HUGE coupon book and sometimes I wonder how many more coupons could I manage.....I LOVE COUPONS! And I LOVE your blog! Thanks for all the heads up!

I've only just started to pay attention to saving money grocery shopping. So far I'm trying to get a handle on paying attention to coupons and store sale ads. It may not sound like much to the experienced coupon-user but I was pretty excited that I saved $17 in coupons on my grocery trip last week. Shopping for just one person, that's a lot IMO!

I plant a garden each year and have tried canning & preserving. A book may be easier than searching the internet for ways to do it.
ReplyDeleteI think the biggest way I save is by using coupons & matching them with sales & on double coupon days.

I scour the ads and read blogs like yours to find the best deals. I buy all my produce from a local place that regularly has lower prices.

I only buy items that are on sale and, preferably, items that I also have a coupon for. I also only buy meat that has been marked for quick sale which I either cook immediately or freeze! Thanks for the chance to win. I have wanted to learn how to can for YEARS!

First, I check online to see the deals that blogs like yours have as far as coupon match ups, sales and do those when I can. Another great thing to do is use coupons, sales AND combine it with a mfg. rebate or Extra Bucks etc... which makes the deal even sweeter. And of course, stock up whenever I can!

I am learning to save by not cooking too much! To explain, my husband and I had three children and for years I cooked for five - including three teenagers who often brought home friends for dinner. Now that they are all grown with children of their own I'm still trying to learn to cook less. And if I "accidentally" cook too much I'm saving leftovers for soup. blessings, marlene

I found out when each store marks down their meat and thats when I save big by buying and bringing it home and freezing it.Mary Smith mary1day@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteMatch my coupons with the ads (hopefully shopping on double coupon day). We just planted our garden this weekend and this book would be great to win. Thanks for the chance.

I save on my grocery budget by watching ads, clipping coupons, and trying to pay for pantry items that are less than $1 after coupons. Buying all meat/poultry items when they are on sale. Buying produce at local farmer's markets (and raiding my parent's garden :). We pick apples in North Georgia and I can homemade applesauce. My in-laws have pear trees and I make pear preserves and pear applesauce. (I would love to win this giveaway to get more recipe ideas to do more canning). Also using leftovers in a creative way for another meal later in the week.
ReplyDeleteCoupons! Coupons! Coupons! and the Sales flyers! i use the internet to check the weekly ads and then print our list. Beside each item with a coupon I make sure to write the value of the coupon. We pretty much ionly shop where they will double the coupons too.

I match coupons with store sales - double coupons last week at K-Mart with already-on-sale Kraft Cheese, etc. I also like to shop Target because you can stack a Manufacturer Q with a Target Q for each item!

Stockpiling is my biggest money saver. I buy in bulk when I can get an item free or extremely cheaply. This way by the time we need more it is on sale again
ReplyDeleteI think this sound save me more money than coupons.. we go through a lot of jelly salsa.. etc.. and to do it mysel well that would save $$
ReplyDeletethis would save me more than cutting out coupons!
ReplyDeleteI check the grocery store ads for good deals. Then I will stop when running errands and stock up. For example, today, I got over $50 worth of food for $30 and used no coupons.

ReplyDeleteStockpiling saves me the most money. Not only can I stock up when prices are good, but I can easily plan meals based on what's on hand in the pantry, which keeps me from buying full priced whatsits to make my meals for the week.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest way I save on my grocery bill is to leave my cute but expensive husband at home on my shopping trips! He eats up my savings putting extra items in the cart!
ReplyDeleteI stock pile my grceries when they are deeply discounted and combine the sale with coupons.
We've added a garden this year. This book could teach me alot.
I find I can save the most by combining coupons/sales to stock up on items with a long shelf life. To save on produce/meat I also shop the sales, but I try to buy just what we will eat.
