Ask The Readers: Healthy Alternatives to Tortilla Chips

My friend Kristen and I were chatting about how much we love Salsa and Chips. (So much so, that I planted a Salsa Garden!) Anyway, I was saying how I wish I could find a healthy alternative to the normal tortilla chips and she agreed.

So I thought some of you might be able to help us out. Have any of you found a great healthy alternative to tortilla chips for salsa dipping? Or maybe even a healthier tortilla chip that you like? If you have a recipe on your blog, I'd gladly use it for my Conveniently At Home segment.

Thank you for helping us out! Much appreciated!

  1. I don't have a recipe, but you can make them yourself with wheat tortilla's. Also if you have a Trader Joes around you they have blue corn ships and veggie chips and such. Those are healthier then normal chips.

  2. This is pretty lame, but I thought I would share. I eat salsa with carrots, zucchini, squash, etc. Cut them into rounds and dip like chips. It is not the same at all, but it works as a vehicle for the salsa if that is what you truly love.

  3. I make "Cheese Chips" You simply pile little mounds of shredded cheese on a foil or parchment lined baking sheet, and bake in a 350ยบ oven until they are bubbly. You can stop cooking them at that point, and they will be pliable little discs, or you can cook them a TINY bit longer and they become crispy chips. They are truly awesome. You'll want to "Drain" them on paper towels briefly, as they can be oily. You can even do it with "American slices" but the they are a bit more difficult.
