Smokin' Hot Giveaway: The 2010 Entertainment Book!
If there's one thing I want to get my hands on each year as a couponer, it's the Entertainment Book! I've been blessed in that this is the second year they have offered me one for FREE plus one to giveaway to a lucky reader of mine!
So what exactly is an Entertainment Book? Imagine a book full of...coupons! Mine had 353 pages of them! But is it useful? Well, do you go anywhere, do family outings, eat out at fast food or casual dining or shop at local stores? :)
If I were to list all of the ones I used in mine this last year, your fingers might cramp from scrolling. So I'll just give a few highlights!
1) Five coupons for $5 off $50 at Dominick's - I was happy to see these were back in the 2010 edition for my area. These in themselves would have paid for the book if I had to buy it. They helped me get some hamburger and pork chops at a super great price this last year.
2) BOGO on Pizza Places - We aren't much on "fine dining" but ask us if we want to order a pizza and we are game! What I love about these coupons...I can order my veggie pizza and my hubby can order his meat lover's pizza and I don't have to cook for a few days. Bonus!
3) BOGO on Fast Food - Even fast food is getting expensive these days. So it's nice to be able to pull out a BOGO coupon and cut our cost in half at places like Burger King, McDonald's, etc.
4) BOGO on Museums - Since I adore my baby sister, I mailed her off my museum coupons this year. (This next year, they are all mine!) :) This saved $27 just on two museums! I also saw there was a $2 off coupon for the John Hancock Observatory this year.
5) Hotel and Rental Coupons - We are planning a vacation for next year. So the hotel and car rental coupons will come in handy!
What's great about these books is that they are specifically for your own area! So you'll get all the best discounts and savings on things close to home! And I have one of these to giveaway to one lucky reader! If you want it to be you, you'll have to enter and try to win! :)
HERE'S HOW TO ENTER:
1) Leave a comment and tell me what is the best deal you ever "snagged."(I'll tell you mine when I announce the winner.) Be sure to leave your first name & email/blog address.
After that, you can also enter two other ways: (Make sure you leave a separate comment for these, too!)
2) Subscribe via Email/Reader or Follow the Blog. (These are in my left sidebar.)Make sure you come back here and leave a comment with your first name and email/blog address. (This should be a separate comment than the one above.) NOTE: If you are already a subscriber, thank you, and please give yourself another entry!
3) For an additional entry, write a posting on your blog about the giveaway or you can "tweet" about the giveaway on twitter. Make sure that you leave another comment with your email/blog address letting me know that you did this.
4) There's a total of three entries allowed per person.
Entry is open to US residents only through 11:59pm CST on Wednesday, 9/9/09. Winner will be chosen using random.org and contacted by email. If you're the winner, you'll have 48 hours to respond or an alternate will be chosen.

My best ever deal wasn't actually couponing. I love freecycle.org and ebay.com for used furniture. We bought our solid wood captians bed off ebay where I sniped it for $10. It also came with a waterbed mattress and heater which I turned around and sold for $50 making $40 off the whold deal. My DH loves to brag about this one to all his friends! My best deal I ever snagged was getting a used, but practically new 2008 Graco Travel System (Cherry Blossom) for $40, when it was $250 at Babies R Us! I'll never buy used baby items again, they grow out of them too fast!

Using the Entertainment booklet - my best deals are for pizza. I take those 50% one anysize pizza coupons to Papa Murphy. (Ours accepts competitor coupons). I can also use their kickback coupon on my previous pizza from doing their survey and get a free crazy bread. Usually I can walk out with a family sized pizza and crazy bread for $8.
ReplyDeleteI've snagged many a great deals but my latest was yesterday. A Pink Tag Reader at Target for 75% off. Paired with a coupon it made for a superb deal, $2.48 plus tax for a $50 toy!

The best deal I ever got was actually at my work. I work at a resale clothing store, and at the end of each season, we hold a clearance bag sale: fill up one regular sized brown paper bag for $15. I packed it full of clothes for me, my husband, and my son. When I got home, I added up all the tags to find that I only spent $15 for what would have been $103 worth of clothes if bought them each individually!

My best deal was probably buying my car. I told the dealer I would pay $17k for my car and that had to include tax, tags, EVERYTHING. He said there was no way he could ever get that low. After more than a month of him calling me almost daily with all kinds of offers, he finally caved! It gets better - my husband and I had a GM credit card with $3100 in points - FREE $$$!!! The dealer's jaw dropped and the manager couldn't get over it. We walked away paying $13,900 for a BRAND NEW car! Oh and I sold the car I had for $6500 so we only owed $7400 when all was said and done. My husband should have NEVER told me we could get a new car if I could manage it for under $10k (which he thought would be impossible)!!!

The best deal I ever got was a cruise that my fiance and I took last year. WE booked a 12 day Mediterranean cruise for $1199/person and we got our flights into Barcelona as well as hotel for 3 nights in Barcelona for $630/person. To us that was an absolute steal for the vaction of a lifetime! For those of you who haven't been on a cruise it is great...you get to see so many wonderful places (in our instance Barcelona, Rome, Florence, Athens, Santorini, and MANY more) and you never have to unpack!! Not to mention, meals are included in the price!!! So, after the cruise was booked I would occasionally look at the website to see if the price had gone down from what we had paid for it, and then one day, about a month before the cruise, I saw it for $599/person. I promptly called the cruiseline and they refunded us our money. Not to mention, they upgraded us to a room with a window.....

ReplyDeleteThe best deal I ever snagged was actually not pertaining to coupons...but a freebie. My employer shut down one of the buildings where some of our offices were located and gave away the furniture that was not needed. I picked up a solid wood bookshelf for my childs room and some other furniture. I mean you cant beat free.

ReplyDeleteI have received lots of great deals since I became a couponer and started following blogs about 6 months ago. My favorite deal was when I got to get my 7 year old daughter a free high school musical nightgown at Kohls, we subscribed to the email alerts for sales and got a 5.00 off coupon and found the nightgown on clearance for 4.80. Great deal and she loved shopping with Mom.

The best deal I ever snagged was a swimsuit from gymboree for 49 cents. It had gotten "lost" and was 2 years old, but my daughter didn't know. She had a swimsuit that no one else had.
ReplyDeleteThe best deal we ever snagged was when we went to JCPenney and they had clothing marked down to .97 and 1.97. Hubby has family in Guatemala, so it was great to get summer clearance items as their summer was just starting. We had tons of stuff, and it took the machine awhile to update as she was ringing it in. It actually took them over an hour to ring him out, and by then a crowd had gathered. We paid about $450 for almost $4000 worth of clothing had it been regular price. Hubby was pretty embarrassed when the women around began applauding as the cashier announced how much he saved. That was about 2 yrs ago, and we haven't had that good a deal since :(
