Trying New Things: Fritos Jalepeno Cheddar Cheese

These are just things that I pick up when I have a little extra room in my grocery budget, as I like to continually try new things. These aren't reviews for companies---but if there's any company that would like me to try their product, by all means, feel free to contact me! :)

I picked this one up a few months back and it's now on my A-list, meaning I buy it whenever I find a deal on it!! It's Fritos Jalepeno Cheddar cheese. It comes in a can and is usually in the chip aisle. It's a little pricey if you don't get it on sale.

I love buying this to use to make a heaping plate of nachos. I can usually get two plates worth. Check it out...Yum!

Now I'm not one to like spicier things but the jalepeno is just the right amount. So if you see these on sale and are looking for a great Nacho maker--thumbs up!

Trying New Things: Arnold Select Sandwich Thins

This is a random series that I do. These are just items that I pick up when I have extra wiggle room in my grocery budget and not a review for a free product I've received. It's just me being "adventurous" and sharing my findings. :)

Since there are only two of us that eat hamburgers with buns in our house, I often find that I either have to plan two burger meals in a week or find another creative way to use the buns during the week. When I was shopping for hamburger buns one day, I saw these Arnold Sandwich Thins and I wondered how they'd work as a bun.

That night, we made Turkey Burgers and I used these. They worked perfect! What I liked about them is that you actually were able to taste your burger and weren't biting into a big hunk of bread. I haven't tried them with a regular hamburger yet, but I plan on it soon.

During the rest of the week, I used these in place of English Muffins and Bagels, toasting them and adding a little peanut butter or cream cheese. I also made...sandwiches with them! Imagine that! :) And to my surprise and delight, Nathan loved snacking on them just plain!

I was so excited to see that the September 25th issue of All You had a $1/1 coupon on page 95. I just picked up an issue at Wal-Mart this week, as my subscription ran out and I didn't get it renewed in time.

So if you've seen these and wanted to try them, check out your All You Magazine. I've added these to my permanent shopping list for two reasons: 1) I liked how they taste and 2) I like that they multi-task as a hamburger bun, sandwich maker, english muffin or bagel. I think when I picked mine up, they were on sale for $2.69, in case you need a price reference.

Here's hoping you enjoy them, too! And remember, if you see something that you'd like to try in the store, don't be afraid to pick them up every once in awhile. It could just turn into a new favorite!

Trying New Things: Mission Jalapeno Cheddar Wraps and Pizza Recipe

As I've mentioned before, I am quite the chicken when it comes to buying new foods. I love trying new things...I just hate spending money on things we may not like. But at the same time, life is about being adventurous, too. So I decided that from time-to-time, I'll pick up something new. These aren't from sponsors but just from my own grocery budget. Here's my first one!

I was watching an episode of Everyday Food (PBS Station on Saturday) and they had a recipe for a Thinnest Crust Pizza, using Sandwich Wraps! How absolutely intriguing! You'd think since Chicago is famous for deep dish pizza that it would be our favorite. But in our book, the thinner the pizza, the better it is!

When I went to pick up some sandwich wraps, I found that Mission makes a Jalapeno Cheddar kind. Now that sounded interesting!! When I made the pizzas, I put a piece of parchment paper on a cookie sheet, added the sandwich wrap and then sprayed it with a touch of oil before adding our toppings.

The boys love pepperoni and black olives so that was theirs. I had put a layer of tomato sauce below those toppings and covered everything with motzerrella cheese.

We had some leftover cooked turkey so I made the second one with that, black olives and shredded Mexican cheese. I wish I would have thought to try BBQ sauce instead of tomato sauce on it. Next time!

I cooked both at 450 degrees but they were done in 10 minutes and not the 20 the original recipe called for. So if you make these, keep an eye on them the first time around so you can find out the proper timing of your oven.

So our first little test worked out great. We loved the sandwich wraps and they made amazing pizzas! I was thinking these might be great appetizers for a party or even good quesadillas if you added another wrap on top of the cheese! At any rate, they are a quick way to make a supper/snack. I loved that the Jalapeno Cheddar ones had a slight "kick" but weren't overly spicy. I'll definitely be adding them to future shopping lists.
